The Pittsburgh Steelers are continuing to evaluate the cornerback class in the 2024 NFL Draft. West Virginia cornerback Beanie Bishop Jr. is taking a local pre-draft visit with the team Friday, according to team reporter Dale Lolley.
Bishop has bumped up his draft stock after performing impressively at the Big 12 Pro Day. The West Virginia cornerback ran the fastest 40-yard dash at an event where all the schools in the conference came together for one combine-like event. Bishop ran the 40 in 4.39 seconds. He also reached the highest max sustained speed recorded by Zebra Technologies, hitting 23.49 mph.
The 5-foot-10 cornerback played almost exclusively on the outside at West Virginia. In 2023, he led the country in passes defended with 24. He also recorded four interceptions.
Bishop began his college career at Western Kentucky where he played for four years. He bounced between outside and the slot while displaying some solid run defense. He transferred to Minnesota in 2022, where he played in 13 games.
Bishop’s average draft position at NFL Mock Draft Database is currently 318th, meaning he’ll likely be an undrafted free agent. So, selecting Bishop with any pick might be considered a reach.
The 2024 NFL Draft begins Thursday, April 25 and will continue through Saturday, April 27 in Detroit.
