The Pittsburgh Steelers and cornerback Donte Jackson, who was recently acquired from the Carolina Panthers, have agreed to a new one-year deal worth $6 million, per Over The Cap. The reworked deal will guarantee the veteran corner $4.75 million and his base salary will be $1.25 million for 2024.
Pittsburgh would’ve owed Jackson $10.52 million in 2024 on his previous contract. His new deal frees up a little over $4.5 million of salary cap space. The Steelers now have approximately $15.65 million in cap space, according to Over The Cap.
Jackson and a 2024 sixth-round pick (No. 178) were traded to Pittsburgh from Carolina on March 12 in exchange for wide receiver Diontae Johnson and a 2024 seventh-round pick (No. 240).
Jackson is a former second-round pick; he was selected 55th overall by the Panthers in the 2018 NFL Draft and spent all six seasons with the team, accumulating 76 starts for the franchise. The 28-year-old has 303 combined tackles including 15 for a loss, 46 passes defended and 14 interceptions, one returned for a touchdown, in his career.
In 2023, Jackson had 59 combined tackles and five for a loss, five passes defended and one forced fumble in 16 games started.
