Could Steelers Bring Back CB Cameron Sutton?

Steelers could be pursuing a reunion with a CB that spent six seasons in Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly spoke with a former Steelers cornerback last week.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac reported Saturday, before the start of Day 3 of the 2024 NFL Draft, that the Steelers spoke with former cornerback Cameron Sutton, who is still a free agent.

Sutton spent six seasons Pittsburgh after being selected by the Steelers in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. The 29-year-old played in 84 games (39 starts) for the Steelers and recorded eight interceptions.

Last year, he signed a three-year, $33 million deal with the Detroit Lions in free agency and played all 17 games. Sutton is a free agent, again, after a warrant for domestic violence in Florida came to light last month.

He was wanted for domestic battery by strangulation, a third-degree felony, however the charge has since been lowered to a misdemeanor. The Lions released Sutton on March 21 once the warrant surfaced.

It is unknown if Sutton will be suspended by the NFL for his domestic violence allegations.

The Steelers are shopping for another cornerback to pair with Joey Porter Jr. and Donte Jackson, who was traded to Pittsburgh from Carolina as part of the Diontae Johnson deal. The team added Texas cornerback Ryan Watts in the sixth round of the draft, but is still likely to seek more help at the position.
